5 x 5 inches
Colored pencil on Mylar
2013
This small drawing will be going into a large installation piece I'm working on with several other artist called "Where's North". If you're interested in being apart of it, please message me.
The project:
I'm having artists give a short 30 min to 1 hour lesson to a stranger (who is an artist themselves) that has complimented/ inquired about their art. Preferably I would like the person who would receive the lesson to be someone who has reached out from Tumblr or Behance.
The lesson could be given in person, Skype, or FaceTime (I have given lessons to people in other countries, obviously I couldn't be physically present, so this was a great solution). The "teacher" will just create a small work and allow the "student" to watch. As the "teacher" works, the "student" is encouraged to ask a variety of questions (can you show me this technique, what's it like to be an artist in New York, ect.).
At the end, whatever piece the "teacher" creates within that time frame will be sold for anywhere from $50- $200. All the works from the various "teachers" who have participated in the projected will be collaged together on a giant wall.
The principle idea is to make art available to everyone both through education and price accessibility. The "teacher" artist essentially gets to have live feedback/ an open dialogue about their work with a source they might not normally connect with. Also they get an opportunity to put on their resume that they exhibited in Manhattan/ West Village. The "student" artist gets the opportunity to learn techniques/career info/conceptional visions from a working artist. The works themselves are priced insanely reasonable, this way the public can purchase a real piece of artwork and give a small amount of financial support to a real artist (a much better option then buying a overproduced and overpriced ikea/ urban outfitters/ bed bath and beyond "art piece").
